Vegan Diet For Diabetics
I just read a great book on a vegan diet for diabetics. It is called “Dr. Neal Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes”, by Neal D. Barnard, MD. In fact, this is the book that got me started on a vegan diet.

I was already on a vegetarian diet, but I was not losing any weight. On Dr. Barnard’s vegan diet for diabetes, though, I have already lost 6 pounds in my first 4 weeks. I am not a diabetic either, but it does run in my family, so I was interested in diet that could prevent me from getting diabetes.
Besides recommending a vegan diet, Dr. Barnard also recommends staying away from a lot of fats, and also to avoid foods with a high glycemic index. That would be things like sweets – candy, cookies, etc. – and refined, white bread, etc. These are the things that raise your blood sugar too quickly. The sugar in fruits is ok, though. That is a natural sugar that does not cause your blood sugar to spike.

In my experience there isn’t a simple reducing plan. You have to use hard work to accomplish your fat loss goals. Anyone who can invent a truly painless way to lose weight will be rich.
I guess it depends on the person. I don’t find this plan hard at all, and I am up to 8 pounds lost now. But some people might find it hard to give up meat, dairy, and sugar. I don’t mind it, because I love fruit and am discovering lots of good tasting healthy food.
